Catalogue and gallery: finding charts, publishing, access and buying
The «Gallery» is the shared catalogue of charts their authors have offered to everyone. You can read it without an account: search for charts, look at their threads and reviews. With an account you can start stitching a chart, save it, build your own on top of it, or buy it if it has a price. You can also offer your own chart to the gallery. This article explains how all of that works and where each feature stops.
How to find a chart
Click «Gallery» in the header. Under the heading are the «Search charts» field with a «Find» button, then the filters and the order, a row of tags with a hash sign, and the list itself.
- Search. Type a word from the title or description and click «Find».
- Filters. «Size» – «up to 100», «100–250», «over 250» (by the longer side, in crosses). «Colours» – «up to 10», «10–30», «over 30». «With back stitch» switches on and off with a second click. Filters combine; «All» next to a filter's name clears only that filter.
- Order. «Newest» – the latest published on top; «Most stitched» – by the number of projects started; «Biggest» – by the number of crosses; «Best rated» – by reviews.
- Tags. Click a tag (for example «#flowers») to open the tag page with every chart carrying it. A tag under a chart's description leads to the same page.
Each row in the list shows the title, size, crosses and colours, the author and, for charts with reviews, the average rating. If nothing is found, loosen the filters. When there are more charts than fit on a page, arrows «←» and «→» appear at the bottom.
What is on a chart's page
At the top is the trail «Home › Gallery › title», the size, crosses, colours and the author (their @username leads to their page). Below are the chart picture, the description, the tags and the «Where this chart came from» line. If the chart was built on another one, a separate line says so – «Built on …» and, if the line is longer, «Originally …».
- «Threads» – every colour with its brand and number and the amount of work in it. Where possible, a «Nearest in other brands» line says how close the match is.
- «What I am missing» – if you keep a «Stash», the site compares the chart with your threads and offers an «Add the missing to my list» button.
- «Similar charts» – appears only when there is something to show.
- «Reviews» – stars, text and date. A box with the average rating under the title appears from three reviews on.
The buttons under the description (visible once you are signed in):
- «Stitch this» – starts a project from the chart and opens the tracker. You have one project per chart: clicking again takes you back to the one already started. More in Projects and the tracker.
- «♡» with a number – mark that you like the chart.
- «📑 Save» – put the chart aside for later.
- «Build on this chart» – see below.
A guest sees «Log in» instead of all of these. The price of a paid chart is visible without signing in.
How to leave a review
Reviews are left by people who have stitched from the chart. Start a project and mark crosses in the tracker. If you have not stitched enough yet, «Reviews» says how many crosses are left; on small charts starting is enough. When the «Your review» form appears, choose «Stars», write «A few words (optional)» if you like, and click «Leave the review». You can edit the review with the same form or remove it with «Remove my review». You cannot review your own chart.
Library: saved and bought
The «Library» in the header collects what you have marked in the catalogue:
- «Bought» – paid charts you have bought, with the price, the date and the links «download the chart» and «download as OXS». The section appears after your first purchase. A bought chart stays yours even if the author takes it out of the catalogue.
- «Saved» – charts on which you clicked «📑 Save».
- «Saved stitches» – short posts you have saved.
- «Liked» – charts with your «♥».
Clicking «♥» or «🔖» again removes the chart from the library. Your own charts do not live here but in «My patterns».
How to buy a paid chart
A paid chart shows its price in units – the site's internal currency – under the description. Units cannot be bought for money: they are earned on the site itself, see Economy and reputation.
- Open the chart and click «Buy for …» – or «Put in the basket» if you want to pay for several charts at once.
- In the «Basket» check the list and the total and click «Pay». The basket is paid for in full or not at all.
- The bought chart appears in «Library» → «Bought», and its page now says «This chart is yours.» and shows a «Stitch this» button.
If you do not have enough units, the site answers «There is not enough in your account for this. Nothing was charged.» If the price changed while you were reading the page, the purchase does not go through and nothing is charged – the basket shows the new price. A paid chart cannot be stitched or built on before you buy it. You cannot buy your own chart.
Manufacturers' kits
The kit catalogue – what comes in a box with fabric, threads and a chart – opens at /en/gallery/kits. A kit page shows a photo of the box, the manufacturer and article number, the size, fabric, threads and «What is in the box». If the kit is linked to a chart in the gallery, there is a link to it. The «For sale» section lists listings and people who have marked the kit as for sale.
The «I have this kit» button adds the kit to your «Stash». Only people who have the kit in their stash can review it.
Your charts and who sees them
Every new chart is private: only you see it. There are three ways to open it up – all on the chart's page («My patterns» → «Share»):
- «Share with a user» – enter a username, choose «View» or «Edit» and click «Add». The person sees the chart in their own «My patterns», under «Shared with me». Access is taken back with «Remove».
- «Share link» – «Create link» gives a long link that opens the chart for anyone, even without an account, for viewing only. «Disable link» turns it off at once; a new link will be different. Share links unlock once your email address is confirmed and your account has settled in on the site.
- «Offer to the gallery» – publishing for everyone, described below.
The editor, printing and export are covered in The chart editor.
How to publish a chart in the gallery
- On the chart's page click «Offer to the gallery».
- Fill in the «One-line summary» (shown in the list and in search), and if you like the «Description» and «Tags» – up to eight, comma separated.
- In «Where this chart came from» choose the origin honestly: «My own work», «Published with permission», «From a manufacturer’s kit» or «Retyped or adapted from someone else’s chart». Some of these need «What it rests on» filled in – the licence, the kit, or what exactly was retyped.
- The «Let other people build on this chart» box is available only for your own work or work you hold the rights to.
- Click «Offer to the gallery».
The chart's page now says «Gallery: Waiting for review». A moderator looks at every chart before it is published: the description, the picture and whether the stated origin is honest. While the chart waits, it is not in the catalogue, no new person can be given access, and it cannot be deleted. If you change your mind, open the form and click «Take out of the gallery».
You get a letter and a notification about the decision. An accepted chart gets the status «In the gallery» and an «Open in the gallery» link. If the chart was not accepted, its page shows the reason, and you can offer it again. New tags work right away and join the filters once a moderator has seen them. Offering charts needs a confirmed email address and the «Member» level.
The card of a published chart is edited with the same form – it is called «Edit the catalogue card», and changes show at once, without a new review. The «Demand for this chart» link shows the author totals for a published chart – likes, bookmarks, how many people stitch it and how many finished – numbers only, never names.
What you cannot do with a published chart
A chart that has ever been in the catalogue cannot be deleted by its author: other people have already saved its address and may be stitching it. Instead of «Delete» there is «Ask us to remove it» – give your reason and a person will read it. You can take a chart out of the catalogue at any time («Take out of the gallery»), but links other people saved will stop working. People who have already started stitching it keep their projects.
If a chart breaks the rules, moderators can hide it. People stitching it keep their progress, but cannot stitch from it until the decision.
How to build your own chart on someone else's
The «Build on this chart» button appears on charts whose author allowed it. You need a confirmed email address, and for a paid chart – a purchase. The site makes a copy and opens it in the editor: «The copy is yours and private. Nobody sees it until you offer it.» In the gallery such a chart carries a «Built on …» line with a link to the original. A chart built on another cannot be sold.
How to report a chart
If a chart in the catalogue breaks the rules (for example, it is somebody else's work used without permission), use the «Report a breach of the rules» form: paste the chart's address into «The address of the page», choose the reason and describe what is wrong. A chart's page outside the catalogue (for example, one opened by a link) has a «Report this chart» card. A moderator reads the report; the author does not learn who sent it. A second report on the same thing is not accepted until a moderator has looked at the first. More in Rules, reports and support.
